Bank of Canada Bank Notes

Responsive Web App

About The Project

With the release of a new commemorative bank note in 2015, the Bank of Canada was looking to find a new and engaging way to interact with their bank notes on their website. The Bank Notes section of BankofCanada.ca allows users to interact with renderings of Canadian Bank Notes and find the security features that each note possesses, as well as the design elements and the unique stories behind them.

The Approach

As a co-op student, I was tasked with finding a creative, yet interactive way to allow users to learn about the security and design features on our Canadian Polymer bank notes. Previously, the Bank of Canada had used images alone to demonstrate the security and design features. The new interactive app allows users to interact with bank notes on any size device in order to effectively find out information about them. The page was built using a combination of Bootstrap, JavaScript, and some open source libraries to handle different functionality such as the 3D flip. One of the challenges of this campaign was the Bank of Canada’s web policy dictating that the site must be compatible back to IE7. This was overcome by finding suitable workarounds, and where applicable, appropriate fallbacks.

This site is no longer live and was replaced by a more recent project of mine that can be found here.
